San Pedro de Atacama and sorroundings tour
6 days Trip around San Pedro de Atacama and sorroundings, visiting archeologic places, salt flats, altiplanic lagoons, hot spring and geysers. A exciting tour trough this mystical town, with adobe constructions, "chinchorro" mummies and marvelous landscapes.
Itinerary:
Day 1: Depart from Santigo at 6:15 am, arriving to Calama around 8:00 am. Then take a transfer to San Pedro de Atacama town. Lunch at the hotel restaurant, then a little travel to the downtown, visiting museums, handcraft stores and San Pedro church.
Day 2: Early in the the morning at 4:30 am take a sprinter to Geysers del Tatio. After seing the spectacle, we have breakfast and visit the natural pools of geothermal water. On the way back, we can see a Licancabur volcano view. after that we arrive to Machuca, a small llama herder settlement.
Lunch in a tipical restaurant in the town, to taste local food.
Day 3: Breakfast at the hotel. Excursion to Toconao and the Salt flats, flamingo reserves and altiplanic lagoons. Miscanti and Miñiques lagoos located above 4000 meters. In the way on back we have lunch at the indigenous community of Socaire and taste tipical Atacama cuisine.
Day 4: Breakfast at the hotel. Visit to Tulor village, built over 3000 years ago . After that, walk to Puritama Hot Springs, a serie of eight pools of water with a temperature of 92° F, located at 3500 meters above sea level. wooden walkways connect the pools so that visitors can easily reach them.
Day 5: Breakfast at the Hotel. Depart from San Pedro town to Domeyko mountains, where yo can enjoy the desert landscapes and view of the Andes. Rainbow valley, wich owes its name to the variety of colours such as red, green, blue, gray and violet, that account for the composition of different minerals. The tour continues to Hierbas Buenas where you will see volcanic rocks formations and petroglyphs. Later around 8 pm, we realize a astronomic tour. it consist in a geographic explanation of the space and constelations, for then sharing experiences while enjoy a hot chocolate.
Day 6: Breakfast at the Hotel. Farewell party in San Pedro downtown, when you can enjoy local food and buy handcraft at the stores. Finally a bike tour to Moon valley and Death Valley, declared a natural sanctuary and monument and protected by uniqueness of its beauty. The tour is an imaginary trip to lanscapes that do not belong in our world, but to other planets.
Come back to Calama in afternoon, and flight to Santiago around 10 pm.
Budget: U$ 2000 per person (All meals included).
Aditional Information: Its important to bring winter clothes and sun block lotion. Temperatures usually drop at night and probably rain.
The water is a scarse resource in the desert, this probably cost trhee times that it normal price.
You have to bring extra money if you want buy handcraft or souvenirs.
Its a good idea bring you own photographic camera.
